Tonsillectomy surgery to remove tonsils often in association with adenoids is sometimes needed for the following reasons: recurrent sore throats, obstruction (breathing or swallowing difficulties), and frequent upper respiratory illnesses.
Adenoidectomy,(removal of the adenoids) often in association with tonsils, is performed for many of the same reasons.
